Paper engineering is great fun to learn. Not only does it teach design, cutting and making skills it also encourages the creative use of an everyday material.

I offer several workshops which can be brought into your school or workplace. These can be easily tailored to the age or experience of your group. I have run paper engineering workshops in schools, for award winning print company MOO.com and in collaboration with V&A 'Out of the Ordinary' Exhibition. Some of the crafters at MOO said:

Paper workshops are great, it shows there’s more to paper than printing out pictures of cats!

Sometimes it’s nice to take your eyes away from the monitor and channel your creativity on something physical. Papercraft is awesome!

Listed below are the workshops I currently offer. If you would like to discuss these or commission a bespoke workshop please contact me at helen@helenfriel.co.uk.

A collaborative Christmas card for 2011 celebrating the Winter Solstice tradition of Mumming.

Dating back to the middle ages, Mummers Plays were once performed all over the world. When used to celebrate the Winter Solstice or Christmas, these short folk plays often depicted a fight between summer and winter and ended with the resurrection of the slain character by a quack doctor.

Bands of Mummers would perform the play around their village to raise extra money for their families. The costumes would vary from place to place and it was common for people to obscure their faces with masks. The tradition has enjoyed a recent revival and Mummers are once again roaming village streets.Photography by Chris TurnerTweet<img src="http://payload9.cargocollective.com/1/4/137750/2492604/IfWinterComes_Web_600.jpg" width="600" height="800" width_o="607" height_o="810" src_o="http://payload9.cargocollective.com/1/4/137750/2492604/IfWinterComes_Web_o.jpg" data-mid="12571345" border="0" align="left"/>

I was invited by Saatchi & Saatchi to contribute to their Lovemarks project. They believe Lovemarks are the future of brands, brands that inspire ‘Loyalty beyond reason’. Using myths and folktales 'Go I know not where, Bring back I know not what' breaks down these epic deeds into their essential components, allowing the modern reader to consider how far they would go for what they really, really want.Tweet <img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/137750/1833470/HelenFriel_GoIknownot1Web.jpg" width="600" height="600" width_o="600" height_o="600" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/137750/1833470/HelenFriel_GoIknownot1Web_o.jpg" data-mid="9057305" border="0" align="left"/><img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/137750/1833470/HelenFriel_GoIknownot2Web.jpg" width="600" height="600" width_o="600" height_o="600" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/137750/1833470/HelenFriel_GoIknownot2Web_o.jpg" data-mid="9057307" border="0" align="left"/><img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/137750/1833470/HelenFriel_GoIknownot3Web.jpg" width="600" height="600" width_o="600" height_o="600" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/137750/1833470/HelenFriel_GoIknownot3Web_o.jpg" data-mid="9057308" border="0" align="left"/><img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/137750/1833470/HelenFriel_GoIKnowNotWhereCover.jpg" width="600" height="600" width_o="600" height_o="600" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/4/137750/1833470/HelenFriel_GoIKnowNotWhereCover_o.jpg" data-mid="9057309" border="0" align="left"/>
